Before my flight to Dallas, I used the Cathay Pacific Lounge at PVG. The lounge entrance is right next to the First Class No. 69 lounge that I’ve reviewed before (the numbers refer to the gates that they’re closest to; not sure what the first class refers since that lounge isn’t limited to first class and is a PriorityPass lounge).
Other people have had reported that the lounge can be quite crowded, but I didn’t feel like that was the case when I was there. The lounge is pretty large with a number of different seating areas. I also like how the lounge is open to the rest of the terminal (mostly so you can look down haughtily on the peons who don’t have lounge access and feel better about yourself).
The food wasn’t great. There are cold items like fruit, sandwiches, and pastries, and there are some hot items (and items that can be made hot like instant noodles) and a noodle bar, but everything that I tried was pretty bad. Probably the tastiest things that you’ll get at the lounge are the prepackaged foods like instant noodles.
I also couldn’t get the wifi to work. The instructions were pretty lengthy, and every person in the lounge that I asked also was having problems with the wifi, so I stopped trying.
The lounge is marginally better than waiting in the airport terminal, but you’re not missing much if you don’t go here. I guess it can be good to get bottles of water, but remember that there’s a secondary security check on flights to the US where they make you throw away your liquids. The secondary security check was also the source of commotion for my flight, which I’ll get to in tomorrow’s flight review…
