Lounge Review: Japan Airlines (JAL) Sakura Lounge Bangkok Airport (BKK)

On this trip, I visited both the Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines lounges at the Bangkok airport (BKK). I would write a review of the Cathay Pacific lounge, but 1) it was pretty terrible, and 2) the Cathay Pacific lounge has since been expanded and renovated. I’ll be visiting the renovated Cathay Pacific lounge in a couple of weeks, so I’ll be sure to report back on that lounge.

For now, here are pictures of the Japan Airlines lounge at BKK. I believe that this lounge and the Cathay Pacific lounges are the only oneworld lounges left at BKK (the Qantas and British Airways lounges have shut down/merged with other lounges). Some of the oneworld airlines will also provide you access to a different lounge (e.g. Finnair, Malaysia Airlines, and Sri Lankan Airlines will give you access to the Louis Tavern Lounges, while Qatar and Royal Jordanian provide access to the Thai lounges), although if you’d be given a lounge pass to one of these other lounges you would also have access to the Cathay Pacific and JAL lounges.

The JAL lounge has tons of seating, and it never felt crowded while I was there. There’s also a smoking room within the lounge, if you want to smoke.

For breakfast, there were pastries, fruit, miso soup, scrambled eggs, and hash browns. Nothing too extensive, but a decent selection.

Unfortunately, even though this is a JAL lounge, there was no sign of JAL’s special drinks like SkyTime 🙁

Anyway, at the time, this lounge was FAR superior to the Cathay Pacific lounge, but now that the Cathay Pacific lounge has been renovated, the Cathay Pacific lounge should probably be your first choice.
